Glastonbury Man Killed in Single-Vehicle Accident

A young man is dead following an accident that occurred in the early morning hours in Glastonbury, Connecticut on Thursday. The man lost control of his vehicle leading it to hit a tree close to an exit.

About the Fatal Auto Accident

According to the San Antonio Express-News, Erik Brandon Blades, 18, was traveling westbound on Route 2 when the collision occurred.

Authorities responded to the scene shortly after 5:30 am. The collision resulted in traffic delays for several hours.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation.

  • The majority of the deaths recorded in 2013, 55.37 percent, occurred in rural areas of the state and 1,347 were the result of single vehicle, run-off-the-road accidents.
  • An additional 232,599 people were injured in auto accidents with 16,807 people sustaining serious injury.
  • TxDOT estimates that in 2013:
    • One person was killed in an auto accident every 2 hours and 34 minutes.
    • One person was injured every 2 minutes and 16 seconds.
    • A reportable crash occurred every 71 seconds.
