GM Recalling Chevrolet Impala Police Vehicles

Bedram Bararpour4 years ago

General Motors (GM) has decided to recall about 36,413 Chevrolet Impala police vehicles. The recall only pertains to Chevrolet Impala police vehicles and not the non-police model. The recall only covers vehicles from the 2008 to 2012 model years.

Problem with Front Lower Control Arms

  • According to the New York Daily News, the problem was discovered after GM received several reports from two police fleets stating that the front lower control arms of their vehicles had fractured.
  • Control arms support a vehicle’s wheels, so a fracture of the control arms can lead to loss of control of a vehicle, increasing the risk of an auto accident.
  • Tire “squeals” or “chirping” may be heard when turning at low speeds after a fracture of the control arms.

No Injuries Reported and Free Repair

GM has stated that it has not received any reports of accidents or injuries. GM will inform owners of the recall, and dealers will replace both front lower control arms for free. The recall is projected to begin on August 21, 2012.
