USA Today has reported that GM is recalling 27,721 2014 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra 1500 vehicles due to concerns over possible seat failures.

GMC Seat Backs May Fail

  • According to the article, the backs of the seats may fail to hold in the event of a rear end collision.
  • Of the 27,721 vehicles being recalled:

    • 18,972 are located in the U.S.
    • 2,572 are located in Canada
    • 103 are located in Mexico
    • 71 are listed as “exports”

NHTSA Recall Statistics

  • According to a CBS report, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration oversees 700 recalls every year affecting 20 million vehicles.
  • With the NHTSA employees who investigate complaints and order the recalls be conducted on furlough, future recalls will be delayed putting consumers at risk.
  • It is estimated by a NHTSA spokesperson that for each workday that the employees are on furlough, 3 recalls affecting 80,000 vehicles are delayed.
