No injuries have been reported at this time.

Description of Recalled Goodman Units

Information below provided by the US CPSC:

  • The recall involves roughly 10 air conditioning and heating units that have overheated and caught on fire.
  • The recall involving Amana, Century, Comfort-Aire, Goodman and York International-branded Packaged Terminal Air Conditioners and Heat Pumps (PTAC), and Amana-branded Room Air Conditioners (RAC) are rated with a 230/208 volt, 3.5 kW.  The units are mainly installed through walls of apartments, and businesses to help maintain the temperature control in the room.
  • The RAC units are often times installed though the walls or the windows of similar type buildings.
  • Any of the PTAC OR RAC units that are beige with serial numbers ranging between 0701009633 and 0804272329, and in addition to PTAC or RAC with beige power cords which are labeled with a four digit code with the MMYY format and with ending in 06 or 07, also ranging from 0108 and 1808 are also submitted in the recall.
Proposed Remedy

Any consumers that have (PTAC) or (RAC) units should immediately stop using them.  First, unplug the unit and then call the company that is listed with the type of brand you are using to seek a free replacement power cord.

Free installation and inspection of the control board for PTAC will be available for non-commercial owners. Non- commercial owners will also receive free replacement and installation of control board if upon inspection it shows the defective power cord caused the damage.

Goodman Company are contacting commercial owners to make them aware they will be installing, replacing and inspecting the control board.  If upon inspection it shows damage was done by power cord Goodman will gladly replace the control board for owners.  The RAC units do not use a control board.
