Guntersville Construction Accident Leaves 1 Dead

A man from Albertville, Alabama is dead following an on the job accident in Guntersville on Monday morning.

About the Guntersville Construction Accident

According to reports, 41-year-old Stephen Paul Woods sustained fatal injuries when he was struck by a piece of machinery.

Woods was working on a pier behind a Guntersville home when he was stuck in the head with a hydraulic pile driver – Woods was killed instantly.

Early reports cited Woods as being electrocuted; however, Marshall County Coroner Marlon Killion has stated these reports were erroneous as there was no electricity involved in the incident.

Authorities continue to investigate the accident.

The following information was provided by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA):

  • 4,405 workers were killed on the job in 2013. This averages to 85 deaths a week or more than 12 deaths every day.
  • 3,929 of those deaths were recorded in private industry, and 796 occurred in construction.
  • The four leading causes of death in construction were:
    • Falls
    • Struck by object
    • Electrocution
    • Caught-in/between
