According to KRIS-TV, the mother of a young woman killed in a hit-and-run accident last Sunday blames alcohol for her daughter's death.

About the Corpus Christi Hit-and-Run

Around 4 a.m. on August 30, Gabriella Garcia was walking along Holly Road in Corpus Christi, Texas when she was struck by a passenger car. She was then hit by a second vehicle. Neither driver stopped to help.

After several cars passed, one car finally pulled over and called police. The hit-and-runs left Garcia in critical condition, and she later died at a hospital. Gabriella’s mother believes her daughter had been drinking and was distracted by her phone.

The victim did not have a car and had sent text messages to several friends asking for a ride. Authorities are still searching for the motorists involved in the fatal accident.

Pedestrian Safety

  • According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), there is one crash-related pedestrian death every 2 hours and a pedestrian injury every 7 minutes.
  • This means that pedestrians are almost twice as likely to die from a car crash as vehicle occupants every trip.
  • Pedestrians can help prevent injuries and deaths from motor vehicle crashes by: increasing their visibility at night, wearing reflective clothing, and legally crossing the street using a designated crosswalk.
