Honda Adds 3 Million More Vehicles to Takata Recall
11 Million Vehicles Recalled for Takata Airbags
To date, 10 automakers have recalled nearly 11 million vehicles since 2013; however, the recalls date back to 2008.
NHTSA warns that the faulty airbags may rupture during deployment, sending heated metal shards throughout vehicle cabins. While regulators have not pinned down the underlying cause for the defect, most reports agree the issue is connected to the propellant used in the airbag inflators.
More than a hundred injuries have been reported in connection with the faulty Takata airbags and five deaths have been linked to airbags equipped in Takata vehicles.
