Honda Recalls 400,000 Vehicles Due to Faulty Air Bags

Nick Naughton3 years ago

Honda has recently recalled nearly 400,000 minivans and SUVs due to faulty air bags that deploy inadvertently.

About the Minivan & SUV Recall

According to NBC News, the air bag system can be triggered by electrical interference even when there has been no crash. NBC News states that in the coming weeks, Honda will install a device in the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) to fix the problem.

Description of Recalled Minivans & SUVs

  • The recall includes 318,000 Odyssey minivans sold in the U.S., as well as 56,000 Acura MDX SUVs. Vehicles affected are the 2003-2004 year-models.
  • Recalls will cover vehicles sold in the U.S, Canada, Japan, and Australia.
  • The air bags sometimes inflate without any crash or trauma done to the vehicle.
  • Missing rivets that could also cause the driver’s side airbags to fail to properly deploy in the event of a collision.
  • For the past 5 years, Honda has been at the top of the list for largest number of vehicles recalled.
