Honda Recalls over 25,000 Fit Vehicles with Airbag Problems

According to Car Connection, Honda has recently recalled approximately 25,000 Fit cars in the United States due to reports of the rear grab handle bracket being manufactured incorrectly, causing it to puncture the curtain airbag as it deploys.

About the Honda Recall

According to reports from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and Honda, the bracket affixing the rear grab handle, which was manufactured incorrectly.

As a result, the bracket may puncture the side curtain airbag as it deploys, leading to increased risk of injury and violating Federal Motor Vehicle Standards

NHTSA recommends customers bring their vehicle to the nearest Honda dealer to have the bracket replaced.

Honda will be mailing recall notifications to affected owners beginning in early December and will fix the issue free of charge.

Description of Recalled Parts

  • The recall stems from Honda’s own internal testing.
  • The problem only affects Fit hatchbacks from the 2015 and 2016 model years, manufactured between April 11, 2014, and July 2, 2015.
  • Within those confines, only the LX trim level NOT equipped with a sunroof is affected.
  • This is the third recall in the last three months for the Honda Fit: transmission and ignition coil issues have triggered recalls as well.
