Honda Starts Recall Media Campaign

Emaan Elahi2 years ago

According to The Wall Street Journal, Honda Motor Co. is launching an advertising campaign to persuade customers to take their recalled vehicles with defective Takata Corp air bags to dealers to have them repaired.

Details of the Honda Recall Campaign

The multimillion-dollar campaign is widespread and is hitting newspapers, radio stations, and Facebook. It is calling for customer to check for open recalls or other safety campaigns associated with Honda and Acura.

Honda has been heavily affected by faulty Takata-brand air bags which can rupture upon deployment and are linked to at least six deaths.

The campaign is mainly focused on 11 states and U.S territories in which humidity is highest as studies have found that vehicles in high humidity areas are at the greatest risk to air bag rupture.

6.2 Million Vehicles Recalled

So far, Honda has recalled about 6.2 million vehicles in the U.S. In January, a Houston resident who was driving a recalled 2002 Honda Accord died when the vehicle’s Takata air bag ruptured and ejecting metal shards throughout the vehicles cabin.

Honda has also claimed that it will have enough replacement parts to meet the demand for repairs by spring. Because of safety issues and quality problems, Honda has been losing to competitors, especially Japanese rival Nissan Motor Co, which has moved past Honda in the U.S market.

Vehicles included in Honda’s most recent media campaign are:

  • 2001-2007 Honda Accord
  • 2001-2005 Honda Civic
  • 2002-2006 Honda CR-V
  • 2003-2011 Honda Element
  • 2002-2004 Honda Odyssey
  • 2003-2007 Honda Pilot
  • 2006 Honda Ridgeline
