Houston Man in Wheelchair Struck, Killed by Multiple Vehicles

According to the Houston Chronicle, a man in a motorized wheelchair has died after being struck by three vehicles on Friday night. The incident occurred in North Houston on Homestead Road, a four lane road of busy traffic. The victim was driving his motorized wheelchair in the road due to a lack of sidewalks on Homestead Road.

About the Houston Hit-and-Run

The accident happened late at night when visibility was an issue. The first car to hit the unidentified man left the scene of the crime. The man was thrown into another lane and was consequently struck by a second vehicle. The driver of the second vehicle did not flee the scene. However, a third vehicle struck the man and sped away.  The victim died on the scene.

According to USA Today, hit-and-runs are on the rise across the nation. 60% of the fatalities reported in these types of accidents are pedestrians which points to a need for certain safety measures to be in place, such as sidewalks on busy roads.
