Houston Trucking Accident Leaves One Dead

A person has died as the result of a blazing wreck in Harris County, Texas which involved a concrete mixer.

About the Fatal Trucking Accident 

According to ABC 13, the accident occurred on Tuesday at about 1:30 p.m. in Houston, Texas. The location of the wreck was on Highway 249 at Cypresswood.

It is believed that, as a result of the accident, the concrete mixer fell off the on-ramp, catching fire underneath the bridge next to the ravine. A HazMat crew was immediately dispatched to the scene of the accident, causing a major backup to both roads.

The following information was provided by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA):

  • There were about 3,921 people killed from large-truck accidents in 2012. This marks a 4% increase in fatalities from 2011 when 3,781 deaths were recorded.
  • Of those killed in trucking accidents in 2012:
    • 18% were occupants of the large trucks.
    • 73% of the fatalities were occupants of other vehicles
    • 10% were nonoccupants, including pedestrians and bicyclists
  • There were at least 104,000 people who were injured as a result from a large-truck accident in 2012.
