Illinois Truck Driver in Fatal Crash Held on $1 Million Bond

Authorities say that the tractor-trailer driver involved in a fatal multi-vehicle crash on Monday in Illinois is currently being held on $1 million bond.

About the Fatal Tractor-Trailer Accident

As reported by My Fox Chicago, truck driver Francisco Espinal Quiroz, 51 of Leesburg, Ind. appeared in court on Tuesday to face charges of felony false reporting of driving records failure to maintain record of duty status, and failure to reduce speed to prevent an accident. Espinal Quiroz will be held on $1 million bond. The State Attorney’s office said their investigation is ongoing and will consider additional charges, including reckless homicide.

The crash happened on Monday afternoon on I-55 outside of Channahon, Ill. Espinal Quiroz’s semi was traveling north through a construction zone near Arsenal Road when he suddenly changed lanes, causing a chain reaction with three other vehicles.

Four people were pronounced dead at the scene. The victims included the driver and passenger of a Kia, a front seat passenger of a Chevrolet van, and one person in a Dodge Challenger.
