An elementary school principal is dead after she was hit by a school bus on school property Tuesday afternoon.

Details about the Fatal Accident Involving the Principal

News Channel 10 has reported that the principal of an elementary school in Northeastern Indianapolis was fatally hit by a school bus that went over the curb as school was letting out for the day on Tuesday afternoon.

The bus unexpectedly lurched forward and jumped the curb at Amy Beverland Elementary School and killed Susan Jordan. Jordan was only the second principal in the history of the elementary school which opened in 1989. Jordan held the position as principal at the elementary school for 22 years.

Two other children were also struck by the bus and are listed in serious but stable condition after they were transported to Riley Hospital for Children at the Indiana University Health system. The injuries sustained by the children are not believed to be life-threatening.

Including the driver, there were 25 people on the bus and none of them were injured. The driver has cooperated with the police investigation.

The Indiana State Police school bus inspection database has shown that the bus involved in the crash passed an inspection just this Friday with no violations. The bus had previously been cited in February 2013 for an exhaust leak and a broken or missing hanger.
