Infant Killed in Texas Trucking Accident

Authorities in Montgomery County, Texas are investigating a fatal trucking accident that left an infant dead Monday afternoon.

Infant Killed in Fatal Accident 

According to KHOU, the fatal collision occurred at around 1 p.m. near Lazy Wood when an SUV crashed in to the back of a tractor-trailer.

The SUV was carrying a mother and her two children, ages 3 years and 9 months. The 9-month-old was killed on impact. The mother and the 3-year-old were both transported to Tamball Regional Medical Center following the collision. Their condition has not been released.

A preliminary investigation indicates the mother of the two children, Carter McIntosh, was using her cell phone at the time of the collision.

The following information was provided by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT):

  • 3,408 people were killed in auto accidents in Texas in 2013 – a .26-percent decrease from the 3,417 deaths reported in 2012.
  • 777 of the 2013 deaths were attributed to accidents that occurred at or in relation to an intersection.
  • Distracted driving was linked to 465 deaths in Texas in 2013.
  • TxDOT estimates one person was killed in an auto accident every 2 hours and 34 minutes in 2013.
