Jasper County Pedestrian Killed in Thursday Night Accident

A pedestrian was killed in a fatal accident that happened in Jasper County.

Details about the Fatal Pedestrian Accident

The Examiner is reporting that a late night pedestrian accident took the life of a man from Buna on April 27, according to a news release from the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper Stephanie Davis reported that the crash happened at approximately 11:30 p.m. along US 96 and CR 722 in Jasper County, when a 2013 Dodge Avenger was heading south on US 96 and approaching CR 722. A pedestrian was attempting to cross US 96, when he was hit by the Dodge.

The pedestrian has been identified as 26-year-old Jeremy Widener, of Buna. Widener was transported to the Jasper Memorial Hospital with serious injuries via ambulance. After arriving at the hospital, Widener was later pronounced dead just before 1 a.m. The driver of the Dodge was not injured in the accident.
