Tina Robinson2 years ago

According to KCTV 5, a high speed police chase in Kansas City, Kansas on Wednesday night ended in tragedy when a fleeing suspect crashed into a van, killing a seven-year-old girl.

Details of the Police Chase

Kansas City Kansas (KCK) police say an officer had pulled over Tyrone Murphy Jr., 27 and was speaking with him when Murphy sped from the scene. Murphy proceeded to run a red light before colliding with a van carrying a mother and her three children.

Seven-year-old Jasmine Rodriguez was killed in the collision. Two other children ages nine and seven were also in the vehicle. Police said that all the children were wearing seat belts.

Murphy attempted to flee the scene on foot after crashing into the van, but police quickly apprehended him. He is currently waiting to be charged.

Wednesday night’s accident is the second fatality caused by police chases in Kansas City in the past two months. In February, Graciela Olivas was struck and killed during a police chase.

KCKPD announced Thursday that it was temporarily suspending police pursuits for anything that is not a serious felony.
