Kansas Man’s Car Catches Fire After He Rear-Ends Semi

A man is hospitalized after a crash on Interstate 70 that left his car on fire.

Details about the Fiery Accident in Kansas

The Salina Post is reporting that a Kansas man was injured in an accident just before 7 a.m. on Wednesday morning in Leavenworth County.

According to the Kansas Turnpike Authority, a 2007 Isuzu passenger vehicle driven by 32-year-old Eugene Houston McCarter from Mission was headed westbound on Interstate 70 near the Tonganoxie-Eudora exit.

The vehicle was coming over the crest of a hill when the driver was unable to slow down to avoid a semi-truck that was traveling 50 miles per hour in the second lane.

The Isuzu passenger vehicle hit the rear end of the semi-trailer and then caught fire.

McCarter was transported to a local hospital. The driver of the semi-trailer, 52-year-old James Edward Long, was not injured during the accident.

Both drivers involved in the incident were properly restrained. The highway was shut down for a few hours after the accident so crews could clean up the wreckage.
