Local Jacksonville Firefighter Dies in Fiery Crash

A fiery crash that happened late Tuesday night killed a local firefighter. The accident left his friends and co-workers in a state of shock.

Details about the Fiery Accident

According to News 4 Jacksonville, the accident happened late Tuesday night on the Arlington Expressway.

The firefighter, 43-year-old Chris Swary had been with the fire department since January of 2002.

The Florida Highway Patrol reports that, at about 11 p.m., Swary crashed his car into a JEA truck that was picking up cones along the Arlington Expressway just west of the Cesery Boulevard overpass.

Video of the crash that was taken by a witness showed firefighters working to put out the massive flames that erupted and engulfed the remains of Swary’s SUV that slammed into the back of the truck.

The workers from the JEA that were present and picking up the cones were not hurt, but the JEA is conducting its own independent research into the accident to make sure that proper safety procedures were followed.
