A 21-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a fatal hit-and-run that claimed the life of a pedestrian in New Braunfels on last Friday.

About the New Braunfels Pedestrian Accident

According to KXAN, the incident occurred around October 24 at the 1700 block of South Seguin Avenue.

Policed were responding to several reports of a person walking in the middle of the road when new calls came in stating that a man was lying in the roadway. Upon arriving at the scene, firefighters found 42-year-old Richard Hafley unresponsive – he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver who had struck Hafley had fled the scene, but police were able to get a description of the vehicle involved. Police later received information that a truck matching that description had visited a repair shop.

Authorities were able to identify the truck’s driver as Mateo Isaiah Caballero. Caballero was arrested at his home around 5:30 pm Wednesday for involvement in an accident that resulted in a death. The case remains under investigation.
