Man Charged in Drunk-Driving Crash After Death Of a Firefighter

Anthony J. Marsal, 24, was arrested and charged with vehicular homicide and driving while intoxicated when he hit and killed a New York motorcyclist last week.

About the New York Motorcycle Accident

  • According to the Star Ledger, Marsal was driving a 1996 Honda Accord at around 5 a.m. when he made a left turn from Vivian Terrace onto North Avenue and hit motorcyclist John W. Monteverde, 56, of Queens, New York.
  • Monteverde was thrown from his motorcycle and was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.
  • Monteverde was a 31-year FDNY who worked at the Twin Tower Center cite following the September 11 terrorist attacks, and had been recognized four times for bravery displayed at the sites of fires and for life saving medical work with the FDNY.
  • Marsal has been charged with vehicular homicide and driving while intoxicated; his bond has been set at $100,000.
