Man Charged in Kirbyville School Bus Crash

A truck driver is facing felony charges after crashing his 18-wheeler into a Kirbyville Consolidated ISD school bus, leaving six children injured.

About the Kirbyville School Bus Accident

KSAT reports Robert Watson, 72, has been charged with felony injury to a child in connection with a school bus accident that left six children injured.

According to investigators, the school bus had stopped on Highway 96 to complete its last pick-up Wednesday morning when it was rear-ended by a tractor-trailer being driven by Watson. Reports state the bus had its emergency lights on when the accident occurred.

Six of the 52 students aboard the bus were transported to area hospitals following the collision. Fortunately, none of the children sustained life-threatening injuries.

Watson turned himself in to the Texas Department of Public Safety on Saturday. Watson faces up to two years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000 if convicted.
