Lauren Fernandez1 year ago

A Texan man has been charged with the hit-and-run death of a cyclist, allegedly driving off with the victim in the windshield of the car.

About the Hit-and-Run Suspect

Police suspect that Silverio Alaniz, 19, struck the unidentified cyclist, 54, in the Dallas, Texas area on the evening of Wednesday, July 15. Reuters reports that Alaniz is believed to have struck the cyclist with his car while making a turn and continued driving with the victim lodged in the windshield.

It appears that the suspect abandoned the cyclist in a nearby alley, where the victim was later discovered. Paramedics transported the cyclist to Baylor University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, said Reuters.

Police arrested Alaniz in a nearby home, where he was charged with “accident involving death”, a second-degree felony. If convicted, Alaniz could face up to 20 years of jail time. Alaniz was in the Dallas County Jail on Thursday evening and held on a $25,000 bail. His arrest report lists no attorney.
