Man Crushed After Car Jack Fails

A man was crushed to death in Southwest San Antonio Monday night while attempting to change a tire on his truck.

Details of the Car Jack Incident

According to the San Antonio Express-News, the man was attempting to change the back left tire on his Ford F-250 when one of the car jacks he was using failed.

The incident occurred on the shoulder of the northbound lanes of Interstate 35 near Southton Road around 9:45 pm.

The truck was pulling a gooseneck trailer with two vehicles inside. The trailer was still attached to the truck when the man used two jacks to lift the truck. The man was crushed after one of the jacks gave out.

Responders airlifted the man to San Antonio Military Medical Center, but he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

  • Jack stands should be used if a motorist plans to work underneath a vehicle.
  • Motorists should use bricks, wedges, or wheel chocks to hold their vehicle in place when using a jack.
  • Motorist should not change a tire on a freeway or highway.
  • Always park your vehicle on level ground before using a jack.
