Man Dies after Falling From Cruise Ship
Mexican authorities have recovered what they believe is the body of a man who fell from a Carnival cruise ship Tuesday evening.
Officials Working to Identify Body
USA Today reports that the 54-year-old man fell overboard into the Gulf of Mexico Tuesday night. A search and rescue operation was initiated after officials confirmed the fall via surveillance video.
On Wednesday, Mexican authorities announced that they found a body which they believe is the fallen passenger. The body is still in Mexico but will be sent to the U.S. after it is determined to be the passenger.
The cruise ship, Triumph, was returning to Galveston following a five-day cruise. The missing passenger’s name has not been released.
Third Cruise Ship Falling Death in Three Months
The current case is the third such incident to be recorded since December.
Earlier this month, March 8, 21-yeawr-old Cameron Smook died after falling overboard from a Carnival cruise ship in the Caribbean. It is believed the Virginia Tech student accidently fell from a sixth-deck balcony.
Cliford B. Minej, 27, fell from a Holland America Line cruise ship on December 21 as it returned to Tampa. His remains were found near Clearwater, Florida.
