Man Fatally Injured in Carlsbad Industrial Accident
About the Eddy County Industrial Accident
According to Current-Argus News, 47-year-old William Welchhance, of Bowie Texas, was unloading pipe at Mewborne, an oil field production site. The pipe is reported to have fallen from the forklift landing on Welchhance. His injuries were fatal.
This is reported as the second fatal accident to occur in the area. The first was Fabian Martinez, 21.
Current-Argus News reports that Martinez was killed in a pipeline explosion on Wednesday. He was one of four employees present when the explosion occurred. The other three experienced minor injuries.
The first accident occurred on Kincaid Ranch Road just south of Artesia.
The Eddy County Sheriff’s Office is investigating both accidents that caused the deaths of two employees.

- 531 of the fatalities occurred in Texas. This was an increase from 2011.
