A pedestrian was hit and killed by a van in Decatur.

Details about the Fatal Decatur Accident

The Herald and Review is reporting that the Decatur Polcie Department responded to the scene of a traffic accident that happened on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, which is just north of East Wood Street.

When officers arrived at the scene of the accident they found that a 35-year-old man from Decatur had been hit by a 35-year-old woman from Decatur. According to police, the pedestrian suffered serious, life-threatening injuries after he was hit by then van and was transported to the HSHS St. John’s Hospital in Springfield to be treated for his injuries where he later died.

A preliminary investigation into the cause and circumstances of the accident has revealed that the driver of the van was heading north on MLK when the pedestrian walked out into the path of the van. The driver of the van was not impaired at the time of the accident, and, at this time, it is not known whether or not the pedestrian was impaired.
