Man in 18-Wheeler Killed in Collision with Train

One person was killed Thursday when an 18-wheeler collided with an Amtrak train traveling from San Antonio to Chicago.

Details of the Tran Accident in North Texas

According to NBC Chicago, the accident happened around 4:30 p.m. on Thursday on the 4600 block of East Scyene Road in Sunnyvale, near the Mesquite city line.

Officials are still investigating the accident, however they believe that an Amtrak train collided with an 18-wheeler, killing at least one person.

The victim has been identified as 50-year-old Thomas Shannon of Plano, who was driving the truck to APAC Texas, a paving contractor that sits near the railroad tracks. None of the 44 passengers or the six employees on the train were injured. The train originated in San Antonio with an eventual destination in Chicago.

The Amtrak train was inspected for mechanical issues and continued on its journey to Chicago shortly after 7 p.m.
