Man Injured in Corpus Christi Pedestrian Accident

A man has been hospitalized following a pedestrian accident on South Padre Island Drive in Corpus Christi, Texas.

Details of the Corpus Christi Pedestrian Accident

According to KRIS-TV, a man was struck on SPID and Whitecap Boulevard early Friday morning. 

It appears that the driver of the vehicle had not seen the man before hitting him as he drove 40 MPH down the road.

The pedestrian was rushed to a local hospital where he entered into surgery for severe head trauma.

Due to the nature of the accident, it does not appear that the driver will be charged. 

Pedestrian Accidents and Safety Tips

The following information was provided by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) and the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC):

  • According to the CDC, 4,743 pedestrians were killed in traffic collisions in the U.S. in 2012.
  • TxDOT recorded 485 pedestrian fatalities in Texas alone.
  • The CDC suggests that pedestrians should walk at night in light-reflective clothing or with a flashlight. 
  • The CDC also suggests to only walk on sidewalks or to walk facing traffic.
