Man Involved in Fatal Accident Surrenders to Police

A man who was accused of leaving an accident that killed two people has turned himself in.

Multiple sources are reporting that police in Louisville have arrested a man who they say left the scene of a car accident that killed two people.

Dwight Mitchell of the Louisville Metro Police Department told local media that 19-year-old Malik Caldwell apparently turned himself in to police on Monday afternoon. He has also been charged with leaving the scene of an accident causing death.

Spokesman Mitchell further stated that on April 19, Caldwell and three other passengers were inside a grey Kia that was heading south on Poplar Level Road in Louisville. Caldwell was driving the vehicle and lost control of the car and hit a fire hydrant.

Caldwell walked away from the scene of the accident. Two of the other passengers in the vehicle, 17-year-old Ellisa Lucas, and 18-year-old Christian Smith, were killed in the accident. The third passenger was injured.
