Man Killed in Georgetown Trucking Accident

A Georgetown resident was fatally injured Sunday when his vehicle was struck by an 18-wheeler on Interstate 35 near Westinghouse Road.

Details of the Georgetown Trucking Accident

According to the Austin American-Statesman, 32 year-old Joshua Easley had stopped in a northbound lane of I-35 following a single-vehicle collision when his SUV was struck by a tractor-trailer. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

Three other vehicles were involved in the collision which left at least seven other people injured. Northbound lanes of the highway were closed as authorities investigated the incident.

No charges have been filed.

The following information was provided by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA):

  • 3,921 people were killed in trucking accident in the U.S. in 2012 – a 4-percent increase from the 3,781 deaths recorded in 2011.
  • Another 104,000 people were injured in 2012, marking an 18-percent increase from 2011.
  • Of those killed in trucking accidents:
    • 424 were occupants of large trucks.
    • 2,843 were occupants of other vehicles.
    • 381 were non-occupants, including pedestrian and bicyclists.
