Man Killed While Crossing Corpus Christi Highway

Police are trying to figure out what caused a man to dart out onto a Corpus Christi highway Tuesday evening, according to KZTV News.

About the Fatal SPID Accident

Reports say that Lazaro Camarillo, 39 was last seen leaving Club Cheetah on SPID in Corpus Christi. For reasons unknown, Camarillo attempted to cross the highway and was struck and killed by a driver. Police say the driver was unable to avoid hitting the man and will not be charged.

Police are looking into whether or not alcohol was a contributing factor.

Pedestrian Accident Facts

In 2012, “a pedestrian was killed every two hours and injured every 7 minutes in traffic crashes,” according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Specifically, there were 76,000 pedestrian injuries and 4,743 pedestrian fatalities that year which represented a six percent increase in deaths from 2011. Nearly three-fourths of pedestrian fatalities occurred in urban settings.
