Mazda Recalls 217,500 Tribute Vehicles

Nicholas Wills4 years ago

Mazda has issued a recall on its Tribute SUVs (2001-2006, and 2008 models). These particular recalled Tributes are equipped with 3.0L V6 engines and speed control.

About the Mazda Recall

This recall, which began July 26, 2012, concerns 217,500 potentially affected units. The problem with these Mazda Tributes is that there is inadequate clearance between the engine cover and the speed control cable connector. This could result in a stuck throttle when the accelerator pedal is fully or almost fully pressed down. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), this risk exists regardless of whether or not cruise control/speed control is used.

A stuck throttle can make it difficult to stop or slow the vehicle. This can lead to high vehicle speeds which could cause a crash, potentially resulting in serious injury or death.

Important Information for Mazda Tribute Owners

Mazda will notify owners of the recalled Mazda Tributes, and dealers will repair the engine cover clearance free of charge. The safety recall is expected to begin by August 6, 2012, and the remedy parts are expected to be in by mid-August. Until then, dealers can temporarily remedy recalled Tributes by de-activating the cruise control.
