Mazda Recalls 540,000 for Faulty Airbags

The vehicle company Mazda has set a recall on upwards of 540,000 older model cars and pickup trucks in the United States.

This recall is due to the possibility of the airbag exploding when put under too much force, spewing shrapnel into the airbag compartments.

Faulty Takata Airbags Linked to Several Deaths

There have been six deaths and more than one hundred injuries linked to faulty airbags manufactured by Takata.

To find if your vehicle is part of this recall, search your vehicle’s identification number found on the driver’s side dashboard and usually on most state registration cards at https://vinrcl.safercar.gov/vin.

  • The recall involves approximately 503,000 cars and 35,000 pickup trucks.
  • The potential models in this recall may include: 2003-2008 Mazda 6, 2006-2007 MazdaSpeed 6, and 2004-2008 RX-8 for the driver’s side airbag and the 2004-2006 B-series pickup trucks for the passenger side inflators.
  • The airbag inflators are manufactured from Takata Corp. of Japan.
