Jonathan Hernandez9 months ago

The victim in a fatal Merritt Island hit and run accident has been identified.

Details about the Fatal Hit and Run

Multiple sources are reporting that troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol are looking for the driver of a pickup truck who fled the scene of a fatal accident that happened on Merritt Island.

54-year-old Steven Terry was riding a bicycle in the area and was killed in the accident that happened at about 9:45 p.m. Sunday evening, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. Terry was from Merritt Island.

Both Spruce Avenue and North Courtenay Parkway were shut down after the accident so troopers were able to gather evidence from the scene of the accident, including a piece of debris they believe to be linked to the back of a Chevrolet pickup truck.

A spokeswoman from the Florida Highway Patrol said that if the driver of the truck had stopped, they may not have been charged with anything. She further indicated that the truck likely has damage to the front end.

According to troopers, the accident happened when Terry fell from his bicycle and was hit by the pickup truck while he was standing up.
