Mother and 4 Children Killed in Fresno Crash

A car crash killed a mother and her four children in Fresno, California. According to witnesses, the father of the children had to be pulled away from the burning wreckage as he tried to save his family.

Details of the Fatal Fresno Crash

“My husband ran out, he saw a car engulfed in flames and a man running around the car wanting to get his family out. He was in such shock we just had to pull him away. He lost his whole family in five seconds because somebody couldn’t stop.” – witness Lori Pierce as published LA Times.

The LA Times reports that the vehicle carrying the mother and her four children was struck by another car at the intersection of Excelsior Avenue and South Marks Avenue in the community of Riverdale, south of Fresno, thrown into a nearby lawn and immediately burst into flames.

The mother, who has was not identified, was driving with her two sons, 1 and 3, and two daughters, 6 and 11, at the time of the crash. All five of them were killed in the collision.

The husband and father of the family had been driving behind victims in another car. The man reportedly tried to rescue his wife and children from the burning wreckage before witnesses pulled him away from the blaze.

California Authorities Investigate Fatal Accident

  • Reports indicate that 41-year -old driver Juana Martinez Bejarano caused the accident when she failed to heed a stop sign at the intersection.
  • The children’s mother did not have a stop sign, and had the right of way in the situation.
  • It is believed that Bejarano was traveling at about 60 mph leading up to the accident.
  • According to CHP Sgt. Joseph Bianchi, Bejarano was injured in the crash and taken to a nearby hospital. So far, there has been no evidence of drug or alcohol use.
  • The CHP is currently still in the process of investigating the crash.
