A motorcyclist was killed in a two vehicle accident that happened on Interstate 35.

Overview of the Accident

KXAN News is reporting that around 11:20 a.m. on Tuesday morning in New Braunfels, Texas, a motorcyclist who was driving a three-wheeled Harley Davidson collided with an SUV on Interstate 35 after both vehicles tried to avoid a fire truck blocking a car crash scene and two of the lanes of traffic on the interstate. The accident happened on the 900 block of Interstate 35, just north of Walnut Avenue.

When avoiding the firetruck, the women driving the SUV swerved into the right lane and came to a sudden stop before the motorcyclist did the same, but came in contact with the SUV at a high rate of speed. The driver of the motorcycle, a 68-year-old Austin man, was thrown from the motorcycle. Police say he was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.

The motorcyclist was then flown to the San Antonio Military Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead. The identity of the motorcyclist has not been released pending notification of next of kin. The driver of the SUV suffered no life threatening injuries. An investigation into the accident remains ongoing at this time.
