Motorcyclist Killed in Cameron Trucking Accident

A motorcyclist was killed Monday night when his motorcycle struck a tractor-trailer along U.S. Highway 77 near Cameron, Texas.

Authorities Investigate Fatal Cameron Collision

The Milam County Sheriff’s Office and the Department of Public Safety have begun investigations into the wreck.

According to KWTX, the collision occurred about three miles north of Cameron around 8:45 pm. Few details concerning the wreck have been released, and authorities have not determined who is responsible for the incident.

The truck driver was not injured in the accident – the identities of those involved have not been released.

The following information was provided by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT):

  • 3,377 people were killed in auto accidents in Texas in 2013 – down 1.05 percent from 3,413 deaths in 2012.
  • 1,883 of those deaths were the result of traffic collisions that occurred in rural areas, and 495 were motorcyclists (operators and passengers).
  • Another 232,041 people were injured in auto accidents in Texas in 2013 with 89,270 people sustaining serious injuries.
  • Based on reportable crash data, TxDOT estimates:
    • One person was killed in an auto accident in Texas every 2 hours and 36 minutes.
    • One person was injured every 2 minutes and 16 seconds.
    • A reportable crash occurred every 71 seconds.
