N.J. Transit Bus, Car Collide Killing Two Teens, Injuring 13

A collision between a N.J. Transit Bus and a car left two teens dead and 13 people injured on Monday afternoon in Pleasantville, N.J., according to a report from NBC Philadelphia.

About the Fatal Bus Accident

The accident happened at approximately 2 p.m. at the intersection of North Franklin Blvd. and Old Turnpike. A statement from the Pleasantville Police Department says a red car traveling along Franklin Blvd. “for some odd reason,” crossed the center line and collided head-on with an N.J. Transit Bus.

The car that struck the bus had five occupants at the time of the crash, all under the age of 20. Two passengers, described only as a male and female, died in the crash. The driver, identified as an 18-year-old female, and two additional passengers were injured in the crash. 10 bus passengers also sustained injuries in the accident.

The section of road where the accident occurred is a 25 mph zone, but witnesses reported seeing the car traveling at approximately 60 mph moments before the crash.

Teen Driving Facts

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports that in 2010, seven teens between the ages of 16 and 19 were killed each day as the result of motor vehicle-related injuries. That year, a total of 2,700 teens were killed and 282,000 were injured in motor vehicle accidents.

Teens most at risk include males, teens driving with teen passengers, and newly licensed teens.
