New Jersey Railroad Accident Sends Six to Hospital

Officials are investigating the cause of a collision between a box truck and a rail train in Jersey City.

Details about the Train Accident in Jersey City

As reported by the Jersey Journal, six people were injured this morning when a box truck and a light rail train collided near Newport mall in Downtown Jersey City.

The train was carrying 38 passengers and was traveling to West Side Avenue at the time of the crash. Of the 38 passengers that were on board the train, six of them sustained minor injuries.

The accident has since been cleared with delays of less than 10 minutes possible in the area.

The driver of the truck was given a summonses for failure to observe a signal and failure to present an up-to-date insurance.

According to Safety Data front the Federal Railroad Administration Office of Safety Analysis:

  • From January to October 2015, New Jersey had a total of 26 fatalities due to railroad accidents.
  • In 2014, the year before, there were a total of only 12 fatalities.
  • The lowest number of fatalities in the state of New Jersey was in 2012, when there was only 7 railroad-related fatalities.
