Nissan Expands Takata Air Bag Recall

Recently, Nissan decided to add 45,000 cars to a previous recall after a woman was injured by flying shrapnel from and exploding air bag.

According to ABC News, the incident happened when Sabra Wilson’s 2006 Nissan Sentra suffered a minor crash in New Orleans.

The Takata-brand air bag equipped in her vehicle ruptured upon deployment sending heated metal shards through the vehicle’s cabin.

Wilson suffered burns, cuts and hearing problems following the incident.

Information Regarding the Recall

  • The recall expansion covers 2004 -2006 model year Sentra compacts sold in high humidity states.
  • In November, Nissan recalled more than 52,000 vehicles to fix potentially faulty passenger air bag inflator mechanisms made by Takata.
  • The recall included several Infiniti and Nissan models
  • The recall vehicles were sold or registered in 12 high-humidity states and territories including:
    • Alabama
    • Florida
    • Georgia
    • Hawaii
    • Louisiana
    • Mississippi
    • Texas
