Nissan Expands Takata Airbag Recall

Nissan has announced that it will be expanding its recall of vehicles equipped with defective Takata brand airbags to cover a total of 53,000 vehices.

4 Deaths Linked to Defective Takata Airbags

Nissan’s recall is the latest in a series of recalls for vehicles equipped with faulty airbags manufactured by the Takata Corporation.

Multiple reports claim the airbags can explode upon deployment, sending metal shrapnel throughout affected vehicles. So far, four deaths have been linked to the issue – all involving Honda vehicles.

According to Business Insider, Nissan has received three injury claims concerning the airbags.

More than 11 million vehicles have been recalled in connection with the defective airbags, and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has opened an investigation into the issue.

Nissan’s Takata recall currently covers the following vehicles:

  • 2003-2004 Nissan Pathfinder
  • 2004-2006 Nissan Sentra
  • 2003-2005 Infiniti FX35
  • 2003-2005 Infiniti FX45
  • 2003-2004 Infinity I35
  • 2006 Infiniti M35
  • 2006 Infiniti M45
