Nissan Issues Recall of Versa – Suspension Issues

Patrick Murray1 year ago

Nissan is issuing a recall of more than 200,000  Versa sedans according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

About the Nissan Versa Recall

According to USA Today, the recall covers exactly 218,019 2007 to 2012 Nissan Versa subcompacts in the United States. Apparently road salt, which is placed on roads to prevent or stop ice from bonding to the road, can cause the springs on the front suspension to corrode, putting the vehicle at risk of crashing

This is an issue because if the metal springs decay enough, they can snap, allowing them to fall into the front tires and possibly puncture them. This chain reaction can easily lead to a crash.

The recall only covers Versas in certain states due to the fact that the issue is weather related. Only cars bought or driven in a number of states, ranging from the Midwest to the Northeast, are being affected by the recall.

Nissan Responds to Recall

Nissan will replace the front springs of the suspension at no cost to the owner. According to Nissan, there have been no accidents or deaths related to this recall.

According to the NHTSA, this is the fourth recall for the 2012 Versa. Other recalls have pertained to the vehicle’s powertrain, its airbags, and its brakes.
