Nissan Recalls 226,000 Vehicles due to Defective Airbag Inflators

Tina Robinson2 years ago

Nissan has recently announced that it will recall about 226,000 vehicles suspected of having defective airbag inflators, according to Fox News.

About the Nissan Airbag Recall

The recall announced by Nissan affects vehicles with model years 2002-2004 that could have defective airbag inflators. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), a problem with the inflators could send metal shards shooting into the vehicle upon airbag deployment. The airbag inflators were manufactured by Takata Corp. and have been the subject of an industry-wide recall due to the defect.

Although Nissan says it is unaware of any injuries in its vehicles, the Takata airbags are believed to have caused at least two fatalities in vehicles made by other automakers. Nissan says dealers will inspect the airbags, and if necessary, replace the inflators free of charge.

  • 2003 Infiniti FX35
