Nissan Versa Under Federal Investigation

susan_harr4 years ago

Federal safety regulators are looking into a cable cord defect in Nissan Versa vehicles which could keep the vehicle’s airbags from deploying in a crash. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has not received any reports of failures but will continue to investigate and may initiate a recall if necessary.

“The data indicate that the spiral cable assembly was found pinched within the steering column. Damage or a short to this cable may cause the air bag to not deploy, which poses a safety risk,” National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Information about the Nissan Versa Investigation

  • The investigation was opened by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) on August 15, 2012.
  • The NHTSA is investigating 100,000 2012 Nissan Versa vehicles.
  • The airbag cable assembly was found to be pinched within the steering column on some Versa vehicles- this could lead to airbag failure.
  • While no adverse events have been reported as of yet, the safety investigation could prompt a recall at a later date.
