NSAID Pain Relievers Linked To Hearing Loss
A recently published study conducted by researchers at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston found that women who use analgesic pain relievers like acetaminophen, ibuprofen, and aspirin may be at an increased risk for hearing loss. The study examined women aged 31-48 in 1995 and continued until 2009; researchers sent out surveys every two years inquiring about frequency of use, and amount of hearing loss. A similar study was conducted independently on men with clinical examinations and found similar results of hearing loss in those patients.
Typical Household Items, Dangerous Side Effects
- Many people keep analgesic pain medication on hand and use it regularly without thinking of possible repercussions.
- Combined use of all three types of analgesics increased danger for hearing loss even further.
- Researchers warn consumers that though these medications are household names, they have serious side effects.
