NYPD Investigates Fatal Midtown Bus Crash

The New York Police Department is investigating a bus accident that left one man dead at the Port Authority Bus Terminal on Thursday.

About the New York Bus Accident

According to WABC-TV, a 67-year-old man from Garrison was struck and killed by a passenger bus around 5 pm, during the evening rush hour.

The man’s identity has not been released and police are working on notifying the man’s family. It is also unclear which company or agency the bus involved belongs to.

The incident resulted in extended delays and commuters were urged to find different means of transportation. New Jersey Transit offered to honor trips home for bus passengers who were able to take the train.

  • The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) recorded 4,743 pedestrians fatalities in 2012 – a 6.4-percent increase from the 4,457 deaths recorded in 2011.
  • Another 76,000 pedestrians were injured in auto accidents in 2012, marking a 10-percent increase over 2011.
  • The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Safety (CDC) estimated that one pedestrian was killed in a traffic accident every 2 hours in 2012.
  • Further, the CDC states that pedestrians are 1.5 times more likely to be killed in a crash on each trip than occupants of a passenger vehicle.
