Tina Robinson3 years ago

A local FOX News outlet has reported the arrest of Edgewood Police Officer James Foutch on charges after a fatal accident in Indiana that killed one person on Sunday.

More about the Deadly Crash

Reports say Foutch was driving a GMC Yukon WB when he rear-ended another vehicle. The impact from the crash pushed the Buick Century off the road and into a utility pole.

The driver of the Buick, Rebecca Marie Sterry had to be transported by helicopter to a nearby hospital with severe injuries. Sterry was nine months pregnant at the time of the crash. She later gave birth to a baby girl delivered by an emergency C-section. Sterry’s husband, Jesse, was a passenger in the vehicle at the time of the crash. He was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

Authorities took Foutch to a hospital for a blood draw and later arrested him for operating a vehicle while intoxicated causing death.

Nationwide Alcohol-Impaired Driving Statistics

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), an estimated 31% of all motor vehicle traffic fatalities in the U.S. are caused by alcohol-related crashes. In 2011, there were 9,878 people killed in crashes involving a driver with a BAC of .08 or higher. In Indiana that year, 207 fatalities were recorded in accidents involving alcohol-impaired drivers.
