A pedestrian was critically injured in an accident that happened in Omaha on Thursday morning.

WOWT News is reporting that police are currently investigating an accident that happened on Thursday morning that critically injured a pedestrian.

According to authorities, the accident happened at 20th and Harney at about 1 a.m.

Authorities were reportedly called to the scene of an accident in which witnesses reported seeing someone who had been hit by a vehicle and was down in the street. When police arrived at the scene, they found 51-year-ol Tyrone Fields in the street near the crosswalk. The man told police that he was attempting to cross the street when he was hit by the vehicle.

According to police, the pedestrian was intoxicated and was unable to give police a description of the vehicle that hit him. The driver of the vehicle that hit the pedestrian fled the scene of the accident. Fields was transported to the CHI Health Creighton University Medical Center to be treated for broken ribs and a bruised lung but is expected to be okay.
