One Dead Following Pedestrian Accident in Odessa

A man identified as Richard Arredondo, 51, was pronounced dead last Thursday following a fatal pedestrian accident at an intersection in Odessa.

About the Fatal Pedestrian Accident

According to the Odessa American, Arredondo was attempting to cross West County Road near the Interstate 20 intersection when he was struck by a 2005 Dodge Ram driven by 19-year-old Vanessa Gonzalez.

A spokesperson for the Odessa Police Department stated that officers responded to the accident shortly before 4:00 pm.

Arredondo was rushed to Medical Center Hospital, but was pronounced dead at 4:25 pm.

No charges were filed; authorities are still investigating the incident.

  • In order to help prevent pedestrian accidents, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention urges pedestrians to cross streets at designated crossing areas whenever possible.
  • In the absence of a side walk, it is best for a pedestrian to walk facing traffic.
  • When walking at night, pedestrians should always wear reflective clothing or carry a flashlight to increase their visibility.
